One of the things I first loved about DVDs was the offered the movie in OAR and most importantly I didn't have to fast forward for 5 minutes to actually get to the movie.

But now it seems like there are more and more intros were I can't access the menu or skip tracks (can fast forward though). That's pretty dang low. I already bought the disc, already spent my money.

Or am I just an idiot that can't work his DVD player? I'm talking about intros where the disc won't allow you to access the menu or main menu.

You're not an idiot, some DVDs do that. It doen't take more than a few seconds at the fastest fast forward rate, still better than VHS.

I was bitching about this just the other day. I don't remember which movie I wanted to watch, but I couldn't get to it without sitting through a couple minutes of fast forwarded material. I just wish someone was there to hear me bitch. :(

I always back up my dvd's using anydvd/clonedvd, and in doing so, I delete the menu's and extra features/ads. Very handy. Quality diff is usually very minute.

Sounds nice. And a HTPC is the next addition to the theater. Just need to find a nice, slim, ultra quiet case.

I use this on my production HTPC line
It takes a full ATX PSU and a mATX motherboard. Has plenty of room.
