Adopting a child does not make you the father (or mother).

"You should not be able to call yourself father of an adopted child. Legal guardian is more appropriate.

When the child is 18, he or she can then decide to consider you the father. At that point papers can be filed to ensure that you are known as the father. Up until that point however, you are to remain the legal guardian."

Bullshit. When I was adopted by my step-dad in every way legally he was my father. Even got a new birth certificate. I was 11 or 13 at the time, even signed the papers.

New birth certificate? You would think that should be something that records data from a certain moment in time. It shouldnt be something that makes someone feel all warm inside because you can change it.

Speaking as an adopted child, I choose my words very carefully: you are a fucking idiot. I was raised by two women for over 99.999% of my life, but I shouldn't grow up calling them mother because I'm not biologically related? That's completely absurd. Or does it only apply to fathers for some bizarre inexplicable reason?

What an absolutely asinine thing to say.

An original quote from you? If so, who made you ruler over families?

When a child is adopted his real parents are the adoptive parents in every way (love, caring, discipline, experience, mistakes, memories, etc.) other than biology and inherited health history.

Anyone who says otherwise deserves to feel like society considers all their family ties to be bullshit - just like they're trying to make adoptive families feel.

My father was changed, legally. That means my birth certificate needed to be changed. They had to file some legal paperwork with the county of my birth, and presto - changed on their records and I get a new original with the changed info.

any dude off the street can legally be made your father, genetics don't mean crap in the end, its just the court documents / legal documents that matter.
