Why would the fact that iPod touch users have to possibly pay for an upgrade affect your decision to get an iPhone?

You know that due to the subscription pricing model of the iphone all the x.0 updates are free right?

iPod Touch users have to pay for them due to Apple's interpretation of a particular law.

Nope, and honestly, if you have either used Flash on OS X you would understand why it wouldn't be a big deal to me if I owned an iPhone.

This is good news, although with Sling almost ready, I'll rarely use it.

All that iPhone users would know if they had Flash is pain and sadness (and a lot of boredom). Sites will be slower to load as they download large Flash objects, your bandwidth usage to just view a webpage will go up, and your battery will quickly melt in to a puddle of goo as the poor ARM tries to keep up with content built on computers for computers. Adobe can't write an efficient Flash player to save their lives, but that's just icing on the cake.:p

Nothing good will come from Flash being on a phone.

I don't agree, Flash is becoming the plugin of choice for video streaming. I don't expect my Touch to ever display a complex highly animated Flash site smoothly. But the fact I could watch streaming video with ease will be awesome. Flash used properly is actually not going to be hard at all on the phone.

You don't want Flash, what you want is the ability to play H.264/VP6/Sorenson video in a FLV container. There's a huge difference.

Flash sucks ass.

I'd rather hear that hulu was working with apple to transcode their content into h.264 and releasing an app. Make hulu like YouTube for iPhone and you've got a serious winner. Hell, they could probably charge $5-10 for the app and I'd buy it.

Here's a dirty little secret for you: Hulu's content already is in H.264. The only reason you can't play it is because it's in a FLV container and they don't want to give up Flash streaming, largely out of paranoia that it'll make piracy easier (even though it's already braindead easy to copy Flash Video).

FLV can be played with the Flash Plugin, so I want the Flash Plugin man :) And with this I'm sure many people will design apps in Flash suited specifically for an iPhone.

The great thing is so many people bitched about "no Flash plugin on iPhone!" now it's coming soon I'm seeing people downplay it. I hope Macromedia actually makes a decent plugin for once. Streaming n0rp = t3h wins!

If it works then GREAT.

The too biggest things missing on the iPhone IMO are Flash support and cut-and-paste. I find the lack of these two features a constant annoyance.

if yours is Jailbroke there are 2 apps released last week that bring C+P, I have used both and they're fabulous. Sucks fdor those who haven't/won't JB their iPhone/Touch. But for me it's perfect.

hClipboard & Clippy are their names, both are on Cydia.

My iPhone is not jailbroken. I don't want to deal the hassle.

Like others here have said, the only practically viable application for Flash on the iPhone is streaming video--and even then, it's not particularly "defined" or needed. I guess I'm still ambivalent, but leaning towards uninterested. We'll see what happens.

well i guess the positive thing is that this iphone is really just a part of the first generation (even the 2nd gen, iphone) of this all in one device.
