I don't see how this is a good thing, Flash sucks.

Flash doesn't suck, but it has to be used correctly. So many people use flash to do simple things that it's not meant to do.. or just simple animations that you don't necessarily need. But it is immensely interactive on the video front. Look at sites like the Halo 3 site. That's done with video through flash. I don't know of another way they could've accomplished that feat!

Flash is used in a large number of popular internet sites. It's not just lame animations anymore. Grandcentral uses it, as does google docs.

they do? I thought it was pure ajax.

I hate flash based sites though, you can't copy text you might need, and it takes forever to load sometimes. And it kills browsing from a terminal server. And most importantly, THE FLASH ADs.

Now, if it weren't so badly used, I wouldn't mind it. And I do like it for video if they can up the quality, it makes for a good way to distribute streaming video cross platform.

Flash sucks in OS X though, and the iPhone is ultimately using OS X. So unless Adobe optimizes the crap out of flash for the iPhone, then I Do Not Want. How many times have you guys seen your CPUs get spiked to 100% (1 core fully used) by going to a flash using site, mine does everytime, regardless of what browser I use.

Firefox 3 is ALOT better than the others. I have Beta 4 and most of the sites that really beach ball your browser aren't doing it anymore. :D Yay!

And I do agree that there is an over abundance of bad Flash use.

Well it looks like Mr. Flash man from Adobe spoke a bit out of turn as he has sort of renigged on his previous offer... Stating that it will take a much closer relationship between adobe and apple to bring flash to the iPhone.

So now we get to play more of the waiting game to see how long it is going to take them to get it working. Hmmm...

GrandCentral definitely does... it says so when I go there on my iPhone. I'm not sure if that's the issue with google docs, but I assumed it was. You can view but not edit google docs currently.

HTML/Ajax - FLEX - FLASH

They can all be developed in the same environment in tandem using Adobe AIR. Rich Internet Apps are going to
get a boost from this. Combining local file access, HTML and AJAX/FLASH is a pretty powerful ally in the interactive
creation arena.

Flash is just misused by all the Creative Suite hax0rs that call themselves designers.

Versions of flash and Java have been on phones for a long time. I don't own an Iphone, but I guess it makes it all that much more satisfyingly gadget-ish ;)

Yes, flash has been on phones for a while, but my understanding is that even the most impressive of these (some of hte nokias) still are not very good with flash. And given as how flash is so bad on OS X, and the iPhone uses OS X... i'm not so excited about it. Last thing I want is for me to go to play flash game and after 5 minutes have a dead battery
