Adobe flash and s.yimg.com

Adobe Flash player 18 and s.yimg.com are annoying. I have Firefox/Mozilla and Yahoo home page.Numerous times I am seeing a window blocking certain news/gen interest videos asking for permission to allow/deny a video presentation for Flash player. Clicking on allow or deny does nothing. On other sites with this same problem, trying to play a "blocked" video has crashed the computer. How do I manage or delete Adobe Flash? Or do I need this annoying piece of spyware?:\

I understand this Adobe is outdated and not secure. Do you use Adobe? If so, what purpose does it serve? If not, why?

Some (but not all) sites are moving from Flash to HTML5. First off, I would make sure FF and Flash are up to date. There was a vulnerability in Flash not too long ago in which FF refused to run Flash until it was fixed.

To answer your question, Flash is enabled on the home PC. On my laptop it is not installed, and I can't remember the last time I wished I had it. You can delete Flash from Programs and Features, and make sure it does does not show as running on the Add-ons page for FF.

Use FlashBlock FlashDisable on Firefox. It gives you a button to toggle Flash on and off. Leave it off until you really need it for something(maybe never). I have it installed on my work machine, but not on my others. I never use it.

Some video sites use it and some flash based games use it. If you're going to have it installed keep it up to date. Forum member usually post in this section when a new version is available. There has been many security related updates lately.

You can get the latest version from here without the McAfee offer. You want the plugin version if you're using firefox.

https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

You can also get the uninstaller here if you want to make sure it's gone.

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

Both links make great bookmarks if you need Flash.

Thank you. Very helpful, except I can't bookmark the pages because there is no option under "Bookmarks" to do so.

I had no problem bookmarking these. Make sure you are clicking the star. And I also recommend clicking the star twice. By default, the bookmark will go into the "unsorted bookmarks" folder.

I haven't even installed it on the desktop. There is nothing I need Flash for it would seem. Even my add-ons can download HTML5 video from Youtube. Hell, I forgot for a week that I didn't even have it installed.

Some sites still need it to stream music, many (all?) Facebook Games still need it. I keep it disabled (Ctrl-Shift-A -> Plugins in Firefox) until I need it for something.

BS: I don`t have NO issue using FF v28.0 and Flash Player v17.0.0.169.

If you think the latest version of an app are the answer to your glitches - You're Wrong.

Numerous times I am seeing a window blocking certain news/gen interest videos asking for permission to allow/deny a video presentation
Just Clk OK to Run your current version of Flash and Remember - Don't UpDate either FF or Flash if you can help it - Particularly if its working.

JUST DON`T UPDATE - If it's working, keep a Back Up of your OS where FF and Flash are Working.

Never allow FF or Flash to UpDate Automatically.

There are versions of Adobe Flash that does NOT work with FF. You can Uninstall FF and re-install any version of FF you want plus DL a Flash Uninstaller from Adobe and re-install any version of Flash you want.

I highly recommend FF v28.0 and Adobe Flash v17.0.0.169 and don't update either.

I'm not a user of s.ying.com but suggest you refer to this link: http://blog.teesupport.com/fixed-how-to-remove-s-yimg-com-automatically/

This is a terrible idea. Neither of those versions are the LTS/ESR (extended support release) versions and will not recieve security updates.

If Flash stuff really bothers you just install Chrome just for flash content.

I have flash installed for some videos & games. But i use a combo of NoScript & Flashblock.

I guess it's up to you if you think you need/want it but if you keep it i'd make sure you keep it updated.

Question: In Firefox, if you go to
Tools->Add-ons->Plug-ins page
next to Flash there is a dropdown menu. What do you have it set to?
Always Activate
Ask to Activate
Never Activate

As far as keeping any pages bookmarked
Control+D

Yeah, since Click to Play became an option a couple years ago Flashblock became redundant. I see FlashDisable could be more useful but also a hassle if often needing to toggle manually. Another option is Flash Control which handles both Flash and HTML5, includes a whitelist, and may be disabled with two clicks.
