EDIT: Need PC Version

My company has one copy of "Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard" and one copy of InDesign CS2.

From what I've found on the internet, the latest version of InDesign (CS4), is NOT able to save in a CS2 format. Text

OMG Adobe sucks. :|

Adobe's website shows a price of $199 to upgrade InDesigne CS2 to CS4, and $699 to upgrade "Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard" to CS4 Standard.

We need one more copy of CS2 (or a very cheap upgrade path for two retail copies of CS2 to CS4). What's a reputable vendor who sells this? My Google Fu has failed me.

Just so you know, Indesign CS4 is much better than CS2....

That being said, we did the CS2 -> CS4 upgrade and it was a nightmare because of the saving problem you describe.

I would go on Ebay and pick up a copy. I got my CS4 suite for around $700 on Ebay a couple months ago. You can probably get Indesign CS2 by itself for less than $100.

Thanks for the information. But our Purchasing Department would go crazy if I told them I wanted to buy something off eBay.

The bad part is that due to the way Adobe sells the software authorized dealers are not going to have older versions. Adobe sells software under the licensing model where you don't actually own it. That makes it where they can kill the resell market and force people to buy newer versions. Autodesk does the same thing.
