Adobe After Effects vs INTEL or AMD?

I'm working alot with motion graphics (Adobe After Effects 6.0) and it's pretty hardware consuming, due to the fact that i'm working in realtime (it renders alot). I'm in the need of a new system but I have problem picking out the right cpu for it.

what i need is a ROCK stable system, that handles rendering for programs like AE6.0 very FAST (as fast as possible).

(if it would be gaming I would go for the AMD64, if it would be 3d applications I would go for an Intel with a quadro fx card)

but motion graphics? (AE6.0) here i'm clueless

so If anyone have any experiance, I would be very happy if you could share it with me or just some basics tips that could point me into the right direction (what I should look for?).

I think you'd probably be happy with either an A64 or a P4C, but I would get the P4C, since they definitely excel more at video encoding more than anything else.
 
thx, but if you look at the xeon and operatron vs p4c is there any increase?, or aint it worth the money? or is that the way to go instead?

and if you look ahead, are there anything intresting comming out soon?
 
Hehe, we're talking about the computer industry, Hixen.😀 There will always be something new just over the horizon. Well, there has been in the 23+ years that I've owned a computer, anyway. And an Opteron-based sytem would probably be slightly faster than a Xeon system, but unless you are buying this system for your work, where a couple of minutes saved x25 will mean more money made, I don't think it's worth spending around $2000 for a dual Opteron or dual Xeon system. I think if you bought a 3.2C or an A64 3200 or 3400, you would be quite happy with them. Plus, you could also spend a little of the money saved on a couple of WD Raptor hd's, which would speed up the rendering process significantly.
 
thx alot myocardia, i think i'm going with a P4C 3.2 system.. and I really dont dare to ask, but if you are bored, or really feel like you wanna waste some more minutes on me, i would be very happy if you could give me some few more pointers, on what mobo and video card i should buy or atleast point me in the right direction.

I agree, they are the best mobos out there. As far as a video card, I have absolutely no idea what you would need, since I don't know how much processing power the video card needs for the work you're doing. Which video card are you using now?

Adobe After Effects (v5.5 and up) are hyperthreaded, and really like the P4C's. It's one of those apps where the P4 can beat the A64 by 25-30% in performance.
