Hi all. I'm new to after effects and have been following a series of tutorials. The lesson I just finished on Matte's has my head hurting a bit.
My understanding of mattes: Making traditional un-transparent things, transparent. I have tried a bunch of experiments and I was wondering if I'm understanding this right. (Most likely not).
Luma Matte:
-----Everything bright is transparent to next layer.
-----Everything dark is transparent to second next layer.
Luma Inverted Matte:
-----Everything Dark is transparent to next layer.
-----Everything Bright is transparent to second next layer.
Alpha Matte
-----Top layer replaced by bottom layer. Bottom layer becomes transparent.
Alpha Inverted Matte
-----Top layer becomes transparent. Bottom layer becomes remains the same.
I'm just having trouble trying to connect the dots here. Is this how I should be thinking in terms of Luma & Alpha? I'm new to After Effects so if you would be so kind as to respond without using too many technical terms I'd appreciate it.
