Adobe Acrobat Gurus, please provide assistance!

I have an Acrobat document from a friend which I need to edit the text in. I am attempting to use Acrobat 5.0 (Full) to modify the text but I can't figure out (for the life of me) how. Can anyone help me with erasing old text and inserting matching text into the blank spaces?

If the security settings are set to allow you to edit the PDF,
just click the TEXT-TOOL and highlight the text you wish to edit...

How do I modify the PDF to disable "Read-Only" so that I can edit it?
