Adobe Acrobat - doc scanned to .pdf appears as whitespace

I have tried to scan a document into Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format using Acrobat 3.0. I am posting the document to a web page; when I view it in MS IE 5.5 or Netscape Navigator 4.7, it appears as whitespace. I have noticed that this occurs when I have to "build" large .pdf documents by scanning 5-10 pages at a time (because of the limitations of my scanner's automatic document feeder) and then "putting them together" using the "insert pages" function of Acrobat 3.0. Any idea for a fix?
