Here's the setup. It's a 3 computer Workgroup network with 2 WinXP desktops and 1 Win98 laptop. The machines use the TCP/IP protocol with private IP addresses given out by a Linksys NAT/router box.
The laptop developed a network problem a few day ago. If you double click on one of the WinXP machines in Network Neighborhood, it would prompt you for a password, even if you were logged in as Administrator with the same password as what Administrator has on both of the WinXP machines. I've also seen messages like "No permission to access resource." I went over to one of the WinXP machines and added in a new user called LAPTOP. The Win98 laptop machine was then able to access the shares on that WinXP when I logged in as LAPTOP, even though Administrator still wouldn't work. I don't understand how this could be happening. Any ideas?
