Adjusting pump voltage

I have an MCP650 Swiftech pump that is whirring itself away and have trouble sleeping sometimes with my computer on due to this. I am buying a 5.25" bay knob controlled fan controller. Can I link my 4pin pump to a 3pin molex then hook it to the controller and force down the voltage supplied thereby slow the pump down at night?

Being able to low-volt a pump requires a special device, at least I remember something like that. The name escapes me but I think Sunbeam makes it.

Yeah, that's it! I THINK you need one that can change voltages on the fly, because pumps require a certain voltage to start before they can fall back to a lower voltage. Does this make sense?

I bought a different company but its practically the same thing where you can just adjust the knob to control voltages. So this IS possible and undervolting will not harm my pump in any way?

Another problem I see is that fan controllers do not supply enough Watts and Amperages when I want the pump at 12V. It takes 24Watts and 2Amps at 12v. The rhoebus can only supply 20Watts, and 1.67Amps. So what happens if I adjust it to full blast... will it catch on fire or something?

The 650 is a very durable pump. I don't think under-volting it will do anything but make it run slower. I'd try it, but I'd also watch it REALLY closely and put it back on a molex at the first sign of trouble. I saw this when I was looking around: Sunbeam Rhebus It's only $20 too.
