I've got some nice 80mm Sunon fans in my case that I paid some good money for, but now they are too noisy. I want to make them run at a lower RPM. I was thinking about going to Radio Shack and buying a potentiometer and soldering it into the power wire going to the fan.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Just get a rheobus or fan controller. They are selling as low as $10 and they can control up to 4 fans. I suggest the vantec, aerogate, sunbeam fan controllers.

I thought rheostats were best for building bays, or is that only the expensive ones you get at places like frozencpu?
