A friend of mine has a used Adic FastStor LTO tape library that he got from his old company that's liquidating most of their server room. Neither one of us needs 1.4TB of tape backup, so we're going to sell it on ebay, provided it works properly.

I'm just not sure how to hook it up. I have an Adaptec 2940uw in my server (see duallie for specs) and the following devices attached to it (along with their scsi id):

1:plextor 40x cdrom (50 pin)
2:plextor 8/20 CDR (50 pin)
3:Iomega Zip100 (50 pin)
6:Quantum Viking 4.5 gig (68 pin)

With the little knowledge I have of the unit, I've assigned the loader an id of 4 and the drive an id of 5. There is a terminator is attached to the back of the library. Whenever I boot the machine with the library attached, all scsi devices fail to initialize. I've not attached external scsi devices to this card before, so I'm unsure what options I might need to select to get it working (is this library even compatible with my card?)

What's the SCSI ID of the adaptec card? Just make sure there's no SCSI ID conflict. On the back of the LTO library, does the connection say LVD/SE or Differential or just SE?

Stop using this device. You need an Adaptec 2944 which is compatible with this drive. This drive is High Voltage Differential SCSI!

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, sharkeeper. I had this sneaking feeling my card wasn't compatible.
