just wondering if AXP 2000+, Ti4200, 512 DDR would still be adequate for most games at playable framerates. graphics is not that much of my preference but not necesarily running in LOW QUALITY mode.

also is it really necesarry to get Nforce2? can i use the Nforce2 Motherbaord from ECS? (since its a lot cheaper :) )

thanks..

I think that system would be fine for most current games. It probably won't play Far Cry, Doom 3, or HL2 at anything but lower resolution rates but everything else should be OK. I have the same graphics card and I can play Neverwinter Nights (which some board members state is a demanding game) at the highest resolution with no problem. I have a faster processor (3200+) with the same 512MB RAM and I don't have any slowdowns while playing games.

You have what I would call and "Edge" system....your right on the edge of the needed performance line. There are many games that your system is perfectly capable of giving you maximam performance on and there are many newer games that will tax your systems architecture. Not to say you can't play them, but you will have to "de-tune" the games a bit and will not get all of the "eye candy" benifits that are coming in the newer and more demanding games.

that system is fine for games.

Medium detail, but without any DX9 effects, and probably without AA/AF either.

A 4200 is already holding you back on newer games, at least if you want to use IQ-increasing features like AA and AF. However, if you are happy just running games at low or medium detail settings at 1024x768 and without AA/AF, you're probably fine for now. Your processor and RAM are not huge bottlenecks; going up to a 200Mhz FSB and PC3200 RAM would help the most, but then you need a whole new motherboard, CPU, *and* RAM.
