i just bought the Cavalier 1 case.

It has this PSU in it 350WPSU

This PSU only has 4 molex connectors, which leads me to believe they don't really want you running much on it. Should I buy a Y extender for my setup to give me more connectors, or ditch the PSU? I'd rather not spend more money on the case, since it came with a PSU though.

My set-up is:

P4 2.4c
1 gig pc3200
Asus P4P800 MB
toshiba DL DVD burner
WD 120gb IDE HD
WD 160gb IDE HD
BFG 6800oc (requires 4pin molex
Fortissimo II pci soundcard
Firewire pci card
plus the analog dial at the bottom of the case requires a 4 pin molex connector.

I had this setup in my Sonata case with 380 Truepower PSU with no problems.

Thanks.

I can't find any ratings on that included power supply. Coolermaster doesn't make power supplies, so I am not sure of what brand it would be.

I would imagine is not a very good unit, but I can't be for sure since they did not list what specifications it is.

I wouldn't trust that PSU, defintatly not a quality brand, and 16a on the 12v rail is pretty weak, 18a is the bare minimum I would ever go with.

dudes, maybe you should start using the search function a little before posting a new thread... This PSU issue has been discussed in and out, down and up etc. in the last couple of days here, that you should have no problem finding all the answers you're looking for.

It would be stretching it by a lot. I wouldn't run it personally, especially since it is generic.

For that system spend some money and get a nice PSU. Get at least the OCZ 420 Powerstream, or a Seasonic S12 powersupply. Antec, Enermax Noisetaker, and Fortron are also nice.

I'm about to buy a Cavalier 3 with the same PSU, I will be replacing it with a Seasonic SuperTornado 400. The Coolermaster will be an emergency backup/test unit.

CoolerMaster DOES sell PSUs with the CoolerMaster name on them. They are OEMed from Real Power - an unknown quantity. But I doubt that CM would risk their rep with total crap PSUs. I would agree that 16A is borderline - that is just about the total initial spin up current for 4 hard drives starting simultaneously.
A 350 W PSU these days should have 20 or more Amps on +12, 25 or more on a 400 Watter. The +12 rail is where it's at now.

.bh.

BTW, I agree with an earlier poster. PSUs have been talked to death here and in the Cases & Cooling section. It's time to give it a rest. Do some searching before posting!!!

You know you ca get the cav 3 without PSU, right?

Here it only 49.99. I might try to return the cav 1 and get that. I don't know how much i want that analog decibel meter.

Don't want the window...really don't want the window. But I did seriously consider it.

I hooked everything up in the Cavalier 1 and thought I would try out the bundled 350w powersupply. I haven't done any gaming or anything with it, but for normal use it is holding up.

11.916 to 11.795 on the +12V, 5.08 on +5v and 3.36 on the +3.3v while typing this post.

BUT, the decibel meter that is part of the Cav 1 design doesn't seem to be working properly. The needle doesn't move and it distorts sound.

So, I think that I am going to return the case to Fry's and take advantage of this deal for 49.99.

I think I'm getting <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://secure.newegg.com/app/CustratingReview.asp?DEPA=1&item=17-159-023">
COOLMAX 400W CX-400B</a>
powersupply. The reviews on newegg are really, really good...especially for the price.
