Address book error

When I go to use the address book in outlook express the following comes up "unable to open the address book. The address book may not be installed properly." I have tried reinstalling outlook I have tried the article on the MS knowledge database and had no luck. When I try to open WAB.exe itself this comes up "an error occurred while attempting to open the address book file". Any thoughts?

good time to switch to thunderbird. or try uninstalling then reinstalling outlook with control panel>add/remove programs>add/remove windows components>outlook express

I've seen this a couple of times on client's computers:

Microsoft: Error Message when you open up the Windows Address Book

"Most of the time, these symptoms are caused by a corruption in the Address Book. Frequently, the corruption occurs over time in address books that were created in older versions of Outlook Express. Earlier versions of Outlook Express did not detect this corruption, and the address book functionality was not affected. After you install cumulative security update 911567, Outlook Express examines each address book file for corruption. If Outlook Express detects corruption, you receive an error message."

Basically, you uninstall the offending security update, move your current .WAB file elsewhere, create a new (empty) .WAB, import your old Address Book, and then re-install the security update.
