Address Bar Searching

Is there any way I can specify the search engine used when I type my query in the the address bar in IE? I would like to set it to google but I'm not sure how to or if its even possible.

Use Opera. Then you can just type "g whatever" to search for whatever on google.

Open the search tab, then click "change preferences" then go to "change internet search behavior" and then choose which search engine you want from the list.

Get the Google toolbar. I have it, love it, and it's one of the first things installed when I install windows. 🙂

Is there something similar for mozilla? I know the browsers are similar in some ways. With mozilla, you can type something and then scroll down to the "google search" option, but it would be quicker to just type "g" first.

this was basically the same thing. If you have win xp, you can get the powertoys...and within tweakui, there is an option for internet explorer. You can set the search string for whatever search engine you want. For example, i set up websters.com as dic, altavista as at, and so forth.

I'm on win2k now and don't remember exactly what the instructions are, but it's fairly easy to setup.

BTW...after you set it up, you type "at peaches and cream" and it'll search for peaches and cream (assuming you set altavista up as at)

IE used to let me do that, IIRC(well, you would type 'google anandtech' to search for Anandtech, or 'yahoo anandtech'). It doesn't work anymore...

Check out Dave's Tool Bar. This thing does everything. It even has built in search commands for Anandtech forums, threads, members, articles, etc. Once you install it go into the help menu and you will get a more indepth list of what all this toolbar can do. By default when you type something in it searches google.
