My dad applied for capital one cc and he got a letter saying they need additional info, copy of social security number for primary applicant and date of birth for primary applicant not sure why they are asking for second again but is it common for them to ask for a copy of social security number as prove that you are who you say u are?

Thank you for contacting Capital One.

We appreciate your concern; however, the following address is our
correspondence address:

In your original email is it possible you transposed the last two numbers
in the box address?

If you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this message.

I have never been asked for a SSN for any CC or loan. Don't know what's going on. Why doesn't your dad call them and ask?

he is not home yet i may actually call soon and prettend to be him and find out what is going on

I reciently read about a scam like this. Someone was placing ads in news papers for home loans and other services using fake (stolen) bank and FDIC logos and asking for this same type of info. The crooks were using pre-paid cell phones out of Canada.

The paper suggested you verify the provided number and address with a known source ie: phone book.

I'm not saying this is what's happening, but you can't be too carefull with this kind of thing.

**EDIT**

Here is the link to the story on MSNBC. It looks like the scam was dealing mostly with home loans though.

i hear what u are saying, i just checked capitalone.com website and the number that is listed on this letter is not listed on the website. the number is 800-903-9177

i just send capitalone email asking them to verify if the address that my dad is being asked to send his cc number is legit

this is the first time we ever get such a letter and we have quite a few cc# plus the credit score is over 700

They are suspicious because you have quite a few CCs, a high credit score, and yet you want a card from Capitol One.
