Additional G80 Features...

I'm more concerned about using the features that are available.

If 16xAA looks amazing on your screen, But cant be used because you get 4fps then what good is it?

It's nice to see these new HDR and AA features on the card.

I think we're all going to be running 4xAA and just seeing higher FPS.
16xAA will bring most games to it's knees.

On Radeons 4x MSAA is indistinguishable from the 6x mode unless you zoom in the image and scrutinize every single slanted edge. 4x to 8x on NV case is most probably going to have the same difference. But then again there will be people who claim to have microscopic eyes...

there is a noticeable difference between 8xS and 4x.

8xS is 4xMSAA + 2xSSAA.

Holy... This is probably the biggest leap I've seen in Video Cards since the original GeForce.

How is it ? HDR isn't that new and 16XAA was coming as this thing is about twice the performance of G71 single core. Also Unified Architecture isn't new , over 5million owner have it in there Xbox 360. Also Qutanm Physic isn?t new also , it?s just a fancy name for a technique that could be done with even current gen Graphic card with loads of transistor and shaders. But It maybe a leap for Nvidia engineering team but ATI engineering team has already done almost every of these thing.

I doubt these features will be useable in any new titles, just like HDR with the original 6 series... Nvidia is piloting new technogies. If a single G80 card can run a fps killer like Oblivon completly maxxed with HQ AA+Anis+HDR @ 1600x1200 with a minimum FPS of over 30fps, then it will be a success. Dispite what some owners of single X1950XTX cards may say, that ability currently lies ONLY in the hands of top card crossfire owners.

30fps isn't enough, IMHO. That's like a slideshow to me.

If it can't manage better than 30fps (esp at say 16x12), no thanks.

Is there any mode of AA available now that can perform AA on reflections of transparent textures?

For instance water is a transparent texture that can produce reflextions as well as show objects that are through it. I mainly notice it in Oblivion, but seeing how many games are becoming more and more realistic I'd expect to see it in near-future titles. In it, the reflections the water displays are in some dire need of AA but the surface of those reflections is already revcieving it's own TrAA.

I just don't know what to classify that kind of texture as nor do I know if the upcoming G80 will be able to perform AA on it.

Was talking bout minimum fps outside, like a what would be a fps bomb slideshow on a current card. If the Average fps was round 50-70fps at those settings then the G80 would satisfy the token next-gen performance bump.

No it isn't however, we have been using 64bit HDR with 16bit FP precision. The update to the HDR processing gives it 128bit and 32bit FP precision.

Its funny that you knew both of these things. We already have 16xAA but cannot run it effectively because of the sheer amount of bandwidth it requires. Also, I have never heard of the 2x performance. It could be more it could be less for all we know.

Because the 360 is ancient? Please, not only that you are talking about a console and comparing it to a PC. Unified Shaders are very new, especially since this is the earliest the companies have used them.

Only half true. While the GPU can currently assist in physics processing, until now there is not a dedicated piece of hardware which does the processing and allocates shaders towards the processing; that is why this is exciting.

Both companies have done parts of these. I dont understand why you would single ATI out in this respect.

The fact is this (and im sure along with ATI's product) will be a huge leap in graphics power over the previous generation. Nothing as significant as Unified Shaders has happened since the Geforce III series when Pixel Shaders were introduced. Furthermore, HDR with that many colors at that precision is only used in movies so far; this has brought it to the mainstream. You can downplay this generation all you want but it is much more significant than anything since (IMO) the Geforce III/IV series.

Oh definitely lol. THere would be no reason (nor would their be enough power lol). Its just the term they used for their physics engine.

im pretty sure the oblivion devs just made the water reflection resolution crappy to gain some performance, i dont think any amount of AA can fix it. at least from my experience, AA or anything i can change does nothing to the water reflections

Even a fully loaded system with a Athlon FX 59/Core 2 Extreme with 1950XTX or even 7950X2 draws less than 300watts on load. Any brand name 400 watter will be more than enough.

You have to take into account PSU efficiency, and what rails most of the power is being drawn off of.
