Addition to the herd - SUGGESTIONS??

I was given a IBM Netfinity 3500 M10, Dual CPU capable. It came with 1 PIII/500 and I have a couple PIII/5xx CPU's so I will make this a dualie. It currently has two 4.3 GB SCSI drives though I have two 9.0 GB SCSI's not being used. The box currently has W2K on it, though if I switch drives I may install something else.

What is the best use for this rig? I was thinking of putting Linux on it and running some TeAm DC project. What would best take advantage of dual 5xx CPU's? Which DC project would be best under Linux? Does Win 2K/Win XP run a DC Dual CPU capable project better?

I can put two more machines together and run them in the server closet at the office. This is one I'd like to add. The other is a HP ML350 Dual PIII 1.3 that will soon be running DPAD.

Any suggestions, or shouldn't I bother?

Do SETI/BOINC with an optimized PIII client. It will FLY.

I have an IBM Netfinity 5000 dual PII450 Win2K running SETI. I get approximately 4 to 5 WUs a day out of it.

I can't speak about other DC projects, but SETI Classic will be slower running Linux.

If you aren't paying for the electricity, why not?

You will need to make sure the steppings of the processors you are using are compatible in a dual environment.

The processor speed is set automatically to the multiplier of the slowest cpu installed. I have to swap things around, AND reinstall W2K for multi-CPU support.
