Addition of 2nd RAID Controller Causing Boot Failiure in XP once disks are connected

Hi, i hope someone in hear could help me with an issue.
Firstly the ground work - MY system, AMD Athlon XP3000+ 1GB RAM, Epox 8RDA3+ Mobo, 550W PSU, WinXP Pro.

The hard disk setup is causing the problem and is as follows.

I have the OS on a 120GB standard IDE connected to the motherboard primary IDE. I have a 240GB Striped RAID array using 2 maxtor SATA disks connect to the silicon image 3112 SATA Controller on the motherbaord once again.

Now, being a bit of a data storage freak, i just bought 2 seagate 160GB drives to form a roughly 300GB RAID Array using a PCI controller card based on the silicon image 680 ATA RAID Chip.

The problem as it stands is that though when the 2 disks are disconnected the pci controller installs perfectly and windows will boot. However as soon as the disks are connected, windows does not boot, stopping just short of the windows xp loading screen appearing.

One piece of information, which seemed relevant is that noramlly just prior to the xp loading logo appearing, my first SATA RAID array always read a short burst of data.
This never happens when i connect the second PCI ATA RAID Array. I think it suggests some kind of confliction in the windows loading functions between the 2 arrays. A longshot, but at least somewhere to start.

If anyone has dealt with a similar setup or this issue, or perhaps just heard something relevant to the problem. Please let me know as i am at a loss. and google is not being very helpful.

Thanks

Kris
