Adding wireless to wired router question.

Hello all,

Currently I have a Linksys BFSR4 router, and i bought a laptop recently and i like to have some wireless net connection on it. My question is, Do i have to replace my router with a wireless one? I know they also come with wired ports. Or is there an attachment that i can add to my wired router to give out a wireless signal? Thanks in Advance.

there are WAP's Wireless Access Points ... plug it into a port on the network and it adds wireless to your setup. In My case I have an industrial router feeding to a 16 port Switch and one port goes to the WAP giving the house wireless and the network still has the faster wired connection.

Technology wise the solution is to buy an Access Point, plug it to the open port on the Router, set it up and done.

However Access Points are more expensive than Cable/DSL Routers, and they provide Wireless flexibilty not needed by most users.

So you might want to buy a New Wireless Cable/DSL Router to replace your current Router. Or you can configure a Wireless Router as a switch with an Access Point and plug it into the Current Router.
