Right now I have 2 machines wired together through a 4 port switch. I can only get dialup service at my house (sucks). There is only one machine connected to the phone line and when somebody wants on the internet, it goes through that PC.

I want to add a third PC to the network, which will be upstairs and I don't feel like running Cat5. If I wanted to connect the third PC via wireless, what would I need?

I'm thinking a 802.11g router and PCI card. Would I just get rid of my switch and replace it with the router? Remember, I only have dialup, so the router would not be connect to cable or DSL and I will have to connect through the PC with the modem. Am I thinking right or am I really a network noob?

TIA.

Use a router and turn off dhcp so you make it into a switch with an access point for the machine upstairs.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. I just wanted to make sure since I never messed with wireless before.
