Adding USB 3.0 ports

My Asus lX hero Mobo has only one header for 3.0 USB. I bought a front panel add-on which has 4 more ports. Can I buy a header splitter to add this new panel without damaging the Mobo. Also the front 3.0 panel has a molex connector for (l guess) added power. Should I connect it with additional power from my psu. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, plug in the Molex otherwise if you forget and try to charge something small chance you might get in trouble.

Pcie cards work well, just normally can't boot from them.

Thanks for the information, however I wanted to get a splitter to just use the header on the Mobo and save my pcie slots. Will that splitter work without damaging the Mobo.

i wouldn't use a splitter personally... but it would probably be fine unless you're using external hard drives without their own power supplies.

you are essentially creating a built-in hub, but the only splitters I know of have the single header connector and then 2 regular USB type A female ends

The mobo has a limit on how much power it will output.
That is why a splitter isn't a very good idea, unless you know you are under what the mobo can supply for all devices hooked up.
