Adding songs form a shared iTunes library to a local playlist

iTunes on PC1 can see PC2 (as a shared server). Can play music. But PC1 user cannot drag any content from PC2 into a playlist. Why not? This is not a case of copying music or DRM limitations. Is there a way to accomplish this?

That's exactly a case of copying music and DRM limitations. There's no way to do it directly from iTunes. You'll have to access the Music folder through the network (which is really easy), or look for a 3rd party program. There used to be a little javascript app out there called Ourtunes that worked really well- I'd heard that it didn't work any more, but it's worth a try.

yeah, itunes limits this to prevent you from easily copying music (well, prevents the casual users). Very frustrating because the system they have in place works so nicely... it just misses the boat by *THAT* much

Sorry, I don't understand how this is a DRM issue. I can listen to a friend or roommate or wife's music, all of it (that's shared). But somehow I cant add it to a playlist? I am not copying the music. I am just specifying what songs I want to play in certain order ... aka the definition of a playlist.

Well, it's a DRM issue in the sense that an iTunes treats playlists you want to create relative to your local library, not the shared one. It's basically the easy way out so they don't risk being a facilitator of "distributing" music. At least, that's my guess for this limitation of how playlists are created.
