Adding Second Display to a Laptop... Possible?

We have a situation at work where a presenter would like to view their presentation on the laptop screen with the notes displayed, but display the presentation to the projector without the notes.

I know Powerpoint supports this, but our laptops will only duplicate or extend the screen to the external monitor. It's not truly a dual display.

Is there a PCMCIA card or USB device that would add a true second display to the laptop?

I will be searching for such a device, but figured I'd pose the question as well.

Thanks in advance.
