I have a functioning windows xp installation and I am getting a new motherboard that has a new hard drive controller chipset. Normally when you swap motherboards the existing windows installation will blue screen on startup because the hard drive contoller has changed and it does not have drivers for it.
Usually I boot off the windows xp cd and pop in the F6 floppy with the new drivers and do a repair install.
How can I preload those drivers into the existing windows xp installation before swapping motherboards so that I can just swap motherboards and then boot into windows normally?
What I'm actually trying to accomplish is to install the raid drivers for my abit aw9d board and be able to get my boot drive to work off the raid controller. (even tho its the same sata connector, but in the bios its set to IDE mode, not raid mode) When I go into the bios and set the sata controller to raid mode windows bluescreens upon startup because theres no raid drivers, but I can't run the intel raid driver install program when the controller is set to ide mode because the install cant find the appropriate controller. catch 22?
