Adding ram

Lemon law

Lifer
I have an older system based on a Asus a7s266-Vm/u2 motherboard--it has a XP2400+CPU and just one stick of PC 2100 DDR ram.--256MB

So I got the brain fart to upgrade to 512 MB --looked at the motherboard manual and all they specified was 184 pin pc2100 ddr--non ecc.

I located a stick of that exact specification on ebay cheap--received it today--did the antistatic thing--got the notch alligned and pulled the tabs in and home---then I booted up the computer--as it booted it showed 512MB OK and then went on to complete the boot process. I had just got to system information when the computer just crashed--I rebooted--again that 512MB OK--and then the computer went on to complete the boot process---and crashed even before I could get to system information.

And this time it refused to reboot---so I removed the second stick I had just placed in and had to work quite a while just to get the system to boot.--and back to its old normal stable self.

But this ram was advertised as new---but just came wrapped in bubble wrap---how do I deal with the vendor who sold me this stick---and how can I find a stick of 256 MB ram that will work?

To MagnustheBrewer,

Thanks for the reply--after 20 something reads I was somewhat despairing for a reply.

But sadly, that second stick of ram, now removed from my system---would not exist in my system long enough to get me even close to your link website.

Still leaving me clueless on what went wrong.

rum memtest, and if the ram is bad, return it if you can. You should be able to run any 184pin ddr ram in there...it'll just underclock it to pc2100 speeds
