Adding Music to Home Video

I have a home video on dvd with just talking and ambiance noise on it. I want to add some music to the background. Like have music playing while the talking is louder on top.

What software could help me do this?

Pinnacle Studio used to read the DVD format natively where it could be edited and burned to a new DVD. There is a demo at Pinnaclesys.com that you could try it with.

I can rip the audio off the dvd and add it back, but I don't know how I add music to the existing talking track.

That is why you want to use a video editor. The newer editors handle a demuxed M2V and AC3/PCM audio track nicely. Studio post V11 does not recode the video either. In the interface, you just add the music track in to one of the audio tracks. Reburn.
