Seeing the requirments for games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2, I've decided to upgrade to 1gb of ram. Here are my system specs right now.

Intel 2.53Ghz (533 bus)
512 Samsung PC800 RDRAM
Nvidia Geforce MX440

The video card is being upgraded soon. The issue I have with going to the ram is another 512mb will cost alot but will it be worth it. Will I be better off to save the money and buy a new motherboard along with new DDR Ram or is RDRAM still a good performer compared to the new DDR Rams coming out?

Also, if upgrade, should I get pc1066? Will it conflict with the PC800 I already have?

Thanks in advance.

When you buy more ram dont buy faster speeds as the 2 sticks of ram will run at the slowest sticks speed which for you is PC800. It is also recomended that you buy the same ram as you did before.

I do not know the prices of RDRAM but for good DDR 512 ram that can be overclocked well costs about $170 at newegg and a motherboard is around $90.

$200 on newegg for 2x256 samsung RDram. pretty much exactly what I have now. My biggest concern is RDram good enough for the next gen games coming out this year?

With a gig of RDRAM it should be good enough. Plus if you decide to upgrade to a DDR board later on, you could probably sell your full gig of RDRAM and cover the cost of the new motherboard and the DDR RAM. You may even want to try e-bay for getting your RDRAM if your brave enough, I have been able to get some better deals for it on there, as I still have 2 older systems that use it.
