adding more ram to existing 128.

i'm stuck between getting a 64mb stick or a 128mb stick to add to the pc133 7.5ns microns i already got. will adding 128mb ram be benificial enuf to justifiy double the cost of a 64mb upgrade? i use winME and i play games like UT, Deus Ex, Q3. I don't do anything like video editing or 3D CAD. i'm fairly cheap, so if i won't see much of a benifit i'd like to stick to the 64mb.

What the hell, why not go for it?🙂
RAM prices are excellent right now, so you might as well. Then you can set your comp to use less virtual memory and that ought to give a performance gain.

the only reason why i'm considering 64mb is because of the prices. I though it already said i waz cheap. if 128mb won't give me as much of a performance increase relative to the double cost, then i'd go with 64mb.

Well, I think 64MB PC133 goes for like $30, right? And 128MB PC133 goes for $50 after rebate (see Hot Deals for Kingston @ Outpost thread). I doubt you'll see any diff between 192 and 256 except maybe when you have a crapload of apps going at once, so it's up to you whether it's worth the extra $20. This is assuming yuo can get a quality 64MB PC133 stick for $30--if the diff is less than like $15 or $10, then it's a no-brainer--go for 128.

i decided to go with 64mb. i'm getting the same stuff i already got. 7.5ms microns. no use getting mushkin pc150 if the existing ram holds it back.

Buy as much as you can afford, but be aware of diminishing returns. At the moment 192 is pretty good, but games such as Unreal 2 and Doom 3 may well require 256 MB to run well.

You're running at 138MHz FSB. At that speed, I think generic PC133 would do the trick, it's only 5MHz over.

I can't run anything over a single 128MB on my system. Every module combination I tried would not work together with a 157MHz bus. It has something to do with the i815 though. I can run 256MB with the -PCI option, but I'd rather have the 157MHz memory speed.
