My friend has a 98 Honda Civic and wants to add keyless entry to it. I believe there is support for keyless already built into the car but this requires the use of the stock stereo system, and then you also need a keyless remote. Now how exactly does one go about setting up a remote for a civic...any links will be appreicated.

You need power locks, if you do then it should be easy. None of the 3 cars in my family has power locks so no project for me :(

2003 Corolla LE
2002 Accord VP
1997 Civic LX (Canadian version)

No you don't. My stealth did not have power locks and I had the actuators installed at a cost of $15 per actuator and $30 for installation.

Really? I really want to get keyless entry into our Accord. I looked around the web but most guides/kits assumed you had power locks already.

Not necessary, but makes it easier if it is.

Chiwawa, most stereo/electronic places that sell car alarms also sell power lock kits. Even big auto parts places like Bumper/Bumper or Pep Boys should sell them. The instructions are usually pretty good that come with the kits.

If you already have factory power locks and you just want the OEM keyless entry system, it's preinstalled in that model year. Just get the remotes and program them.

Although it does use a button on the factory HU so I'm not sure what the impact is, but you could always just get an aftermarket system.

Ok so i found out my friend has the Civic HX which by chance does have power door locks. He has a aftermarket headunit in, but using a reverse harness and the instructions at http://www.installdr.com/ you can hookup your stock deck and aftermarket deck at the same time so you can have a aftermarket deck and still use keyless.

So basicly what he needs is the wiring harness and a keyless remote for a 98 civic. The question i have now is, will any remote from that generation work (there are lots on ebay) or does he need to get one with a specific FCC number or something?

Any remote should work ... but why's he wasting valuable decal money on practical items? That Civic needs a Type-R badge, stat! :D

Any from that generation should work, it just needs to be programmed from in the car.

I just did a google search and found this website selling a 4 door power lock kit

Here

Is that a good price? How would I go about installing it for my 2002 Accord. Are there any guides available?

EDIT: I'm a complete car n00b btw, so if anyone wants to help me I'd really appreciate it (PM or just posting here). I really need help with this! Thanks :)

My car does not have power door lock either, when I install alarm, I did add power door lock and the guy even ask me if I want to install power windows. They did charge me $35 / door for power door lock.

There are probably a lot of combinations and after you spend the half hour getting the right code you still have to hotwire the car...It's easier to just smash a window
