Adding gigabit ethernet?

I have a trusty Linksys WRT54G that's been serving the house for a while, but with my most replacement of another family computer, we now have 5 computers that are gigabit capable.

Of course I'd like wireless capabilities. The desktops in the computer room are wired up, but the laptops are clearly on wireless.

My cable modem attaches to the uplink port of my Linksys router.

What's the most painless way to throw a Gigabit switch in there while using the Linksys wireless router? Preferably I'd keep the router and switch in the same room. I'll wire the desktops to the switch while the laptops keep using wireless. But sometimes I wire up to do some file transfers. It'd be much better using the gigabit switch...

always separate switching from routing. or you'll feel how cheap/weak the BEST routers are compared to $19 rosewill gigabit switch.

to the router as usual, on the wan port of the wrt54g.
Don't change a thing there, just plug the new switch into one of the 4 lan ports.
I have used the trendnet green 8 port switch for a couple of years at several places now. I put it on my power meter and it does use only 1 watt.
