adding extra memory for gaming

The newest EverQuest (on line rpg) expansion SoL insist on upgrading to DX8.1 and GeForce2 or beter cards, and +256MB system memory.
Many users are just adding two or three 512MB sticks since it is so cheap. But there is according to MS problems with using more than 512MB memory. Seems I once saw a simple added line that would allow W98.2, Wxp and W2K to use the extra memory.
Of cource certain mobo have compatability problems with various memory brands, and there is the mixing of PC 100, 133 and 150 SDRAM that could cause memory - OS function problems, and the order the memory is inserted in dimm banks.
There are memory references:

that give interesting memory information, but am interested in advice on possible system corrections that would lessen problems with using extra memory vs just only using 512MB.

Dork! It is the right forum for this type of question.:| Get off the "wrong forum" horse.

There is a registry change you have to make. I'll find it for you and post.

There is an article on Technet that explains the "possible problem" with running more than 512 ram on 9x machines

Linkage

Hope that answers your question.

BTW: I would personally recommend running a maximum of 512MB ram on 9x. There Really isn't ANYTHING out there that will use any more than this. Especially a Game. Maybe some graphics programs, but Certainly not any game... and none will be coming out any time soon that will either.
