Adding emulators to a PS3 - Is it possible?

Just wondering if it's possible to add NES/SNES/N64/PSX emulators to my old fat PS3. I have them on my PC and my Galaxy S III, but I was wondering if I could add them to my PS3.

Edit: It seems this is still a touchy subject in most places, so if any mods here object to this, just close it down.

The PC and Android are fairly open platforms given that anyone can write an executable or package up an APK. Given that, it's fairly easy to get emulators on them if you're willing to look to find them in the first place. However, consoles are not that open. To be able to use emulators, you would need to be able to execute homebrew code, and then someone would need to actually write the emulators for the console.

That's happened in the past with previous consoles. Hacking the original XBOX was pretty simple to do. I hacked my brother's using a software hack (used the XBOX to unlock the hard drive and disconnected it before it relocked), and that unlocked a plethora of emulators and other homebrew stuff.

Now, from reports and rumors, it sounds like both Sony and Microsoft may be a bit more open to indie developers, but I really doubt that this will allow people to develop emulators for the consoles.

I've been doing a lot of research lately on the subject since I've been into a nostalgia hump as of late and I was just hoping to continue some of my nostalgia gaming on my HDTV at home rather than actually break out my SNES from storage.

Well, if you really want an easy solution, my best advice would probably be to just use your SGS3 for it. You should be able to hook up a controller to the SGS3, and then hook it up to your TV via HDMI out. I think you can even connect a PS3 controller to a SGS3 via Bluetooth. I don't own that model of phone, so I can't be too certain what's possible.

I have my PS3 controller connected via Bluetooth and I have a USB OTG cable so I can hook my phone up to my TV and my stereo system. However, my phone won't charge while I have it connected to my TV for some reason and using the OTG to connect it to all that really kills the battery. I have maybe three hours before the phone completely dies and I've heard from other GS3 users that the battery is very susceptible to damage by constantly draining and recharging or recharging during heavy use like emulation.

I'm not sure what you're using, but would this cable help keep your phone charged while using HDMI output?

As for the battery being damaged, yes, you would probably help wear out the battery a bit faster. However, the whole point of the Galaxy S line is that they have user replaceable batteries, so I honestly wouldn't worry about it much.

hook your PC up to TV and use the various emulators available for that? Unless it's not realistic to move it to wherever your TV is.
