Adding/changing users in Netware 6, how to?

My dad's bidness runs Netware 6, and the computer guy that was there is in FPMITAP.

I'm a Windows Server guy now, used to mess with Netware long ago...like 10 years ago, so I remember nothing.

Anyways he hired a new employee and is needing to setup a new user, but I have no idea how. The server is just at the black screen with the server name> prompt.

Any tips?

The users PC sees the network fine, just doesn't have the authentication to log on to the network.

I'm not sure about NetWare 6 but with previous versions you didn't do much of anything from the server console, you need the admin tools like ConsoleOne.

Humm thanks, I'll take a look at some of the other rigs and see what's on the desktop.

Back when I used to mess with it, we always drove it from the prompt at the server. I guess with newer versions they added a GUI.

Yea with some release they incorporated XFree and Java so that you could run ConsoleOne from the server but AIUI the preferred way to manage the thing is still running ConsoleOne from a client. Hell you might be able to start X by running startx on the console if it's installed.

You have two choices: 1 - go to the console and run STARTX, one of the options on that GUI will take you into ConsoleOne
2 - log into the Netware network as an administrator level user and access ConsoleOne from sys:system\public\mgmt\ConsoleOne\1.2\bin

I'll give those a shot.

I ran "applet" and it gave me some sort of GUI with a little Novell icon at the bottom left. But for some reason the KVM didn't have a mouse hooked up (PS/2 and all the mice in the building are USB).

I was able to remember CTRL+ESC does the same as ALT+F4 in Windows. Got kinda worried when I ran that program and couldn't get out.

So perhaps with a mouse I could see if that button does anything.

I'll see if the SmartX runs anything. I couldn't find a program identifier for the applet that I could run, perhaps that is ConsoleOne.

Thanks for the help so far.
