My laptop bought through Duke didn't come with Bluetooth standard and that is a feature that I would like in the future. Is it possible to add the bluetooth cdc or whatever to the laptop myself or would i have ot send it back or what? Just wondering cuz I was thinking about using a vision enabled phone connected to my laptop to access the interent where vision has signal.

Depending on what IBM considers enduser replaceable parts it may void your warranty. But i don't c y you couldn't if you dont mind killin the warranty.

There were several threads about this at http://forum.thinkpads.com , you should be able to find them.
IIRC there was a list of models that have built-in Bluetooth antenna, if yours is one of them you can just replace the modem card by modem/BT card.

according to this page my laptop (2373-DD3) doesn't have a bluetooth antenna and the bluetooth modem card is $67.50 and the new clear plate is $12.50, but it still doesn't answer my question if I can do it myself or not. I'm assuming I'd have to send it back so they could install a bluetooth antenna though.

It seems that in addition to the modem/BT card and the plate you will also need the antenna since your model doesn't have one.
As for replacing the modem/BT card check: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=674 , there is also some discussion about adding an antenna, but it seems that this may void the warranty.
