I have an iphone as a single line plan and my wife wants one now too. She is currently with verizon (which is a long story) but we will not be porting her # (at this time).

Anyway, I figure w/ the refurb deal running that's the way to go. So I went to the store and found out they don't do refurb phones there and I had to go online. No problem I thought; I'll just switch to a family plan and add a line. Easy.

So I go thru the add a line process, select all the plan details and it tells me that what I added to my cart will be my phone and now I need to select a 2nd phone for the family plan.

Ok, again, no big deal. I'll call the sales line and set it up thru them and get a refurb. Well apparently they don't do refurbs either.

Has anyone else done this kind of plan change? What am I missing? I'd rather spend the $100 extra before I mess up my plan.

just add another plan to your account. Select whatever plan you want. After you receive the phone, call them for a rate plan change and rerate.

They don't sell or order refurb iPhones from the AT&T store nor over the phone.

As for cost, basic family plan for 2 phones is $129/month.

Including the iPhone data plans?

Cheapest family plan $59
Data for 2 iPhones $60
Messaging $30
Taxes & 911 fees $20

Looks more like ~$170 to me, I pay more, not criticizing, just doing the math...

$4K+/2 years

Not sure. I was at the store yesterday looking at the brochure and it said "$129". Im sure there are fees, but that did seem to include the data. Guess I'll find out.

EDIT: Here is the rate plan for the iPhone. FamilyTalk claims it includes data. http://www.wireless.att.com/ce...ecials/iphone-info.jsp

We never had a land line. Since starting college (2001) we've both moved so much that a cell has always been more practical.

Plus I get 20% off thru my employer so it isn't too bad.

It's offset by my new job. I took a 300% pay raise but now live away from home all week every week for the next 3 months. So this will help us stay in touch and so forth.
