adding an avatar?

I'm trying to add an avatar and I keep getting a file upload failure error.

The picture is 100x80 pixel, even brought it down to 99x80 but still won't work. It's only slightly under 3kb so it meets the size requirements.

Tried using the link and uploading it. neither worked. wtf am i doing wrong?

No. Under the User Control Panel, Edit Avatar it says:

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).

Are you confusing profile picture with avatar?

What schneiderguy said above is correct about the Profile Picture size.
The OP had asked about Avatar sizes (if indeed that is what he is trying to upload)
Avatars are 80 x 80 Pixels or 19.5KB in size
