Adding a XP Workstation to Samba - XP configuration

I'll say first my knowledge of Samba is very limited

I need to know what the Advanced TCP/IP Wins and Netbios over TCP/IP settings
accomplish with an Windows XP pro client working with a non domain Samba server

Adding the Windows XP Pro client and copying all the network settings from a windows 2000 client except the Advanced TCP/IP Wins and Netbios over TCP/IP settings seems to work fine except to 2000 client can see the XP client but can't connect
the XP client has no problem connecting to the 2000

so does this has anything to do with the Advanced TCP/IP Wins and Netbios over TCP/IP settings ?

Well assuming you are using DHCP for you client machine, it should be checked for the default (get netbios settings from DHCP server, if not use Netbios over TCP/IP), your samba should be setup with a server string name and be setup for share level permissions.
