Adding a wireless router to existing wireless network

I have a wireless network set up in my house, a D-Link DI 524 which is connected to the cable moden and which covers most but not all of the areas that I want to be covered. I have an older D-Link wireless router which I would like to use to pick up and repeat/extend the range of the primary (524) signal.

Can I set up the second wireless router to extend the range of the first one and allow me to access the network?

All assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check your manual. If it mentions a repeater or bridge mode then you can probably get it to work. Typically wireless routers, and particularly older ones, cannot bridge So the very likely answer is no, not wirelessly.
