Adding a Subwoofer to 2 Channel CD Player

I had my surround sound box finally go out on me, I knew it was coming...In the mean time and until I can afford a new system I am using my Phillips MC235 Micro Systems CD player to provide sound because it is cleaner then the raspy speakers built into my tv.

My question is if I have my subwoofer sitting around is there any way to hook it up to my CD player...the CD player has red/black wire connections for either of the two speakers as well as two black wire connections for an FM antenna (I think it is marked). The only other connection is the 2 port rca red/white sound input.

My sub uses a 2 wire cord and does not have a power cord.

I thought I had read somewhere in the past that it was possible to double up (speaker and sub) in the same red/black connection port....just curious if that can be done or if it would have any issues.

I am not an audiophile so take it easy on me if this is just plain silly! :p

Sounds like a passive subwoofer, meaning it relies on the amp to power it. If you "double up" the speakers and subwoofer together you could fry your amp. I wouldn't recommend it.

The only way it would work is if the subwoofer was amplified and had speaker level inputs.
By the way you describe it, it is neither.
Don't attempt it.

It depends on the amp and the speakers.
You really need an ohm meter to be sure.
You can add as many speakers as you like to a amp provided you keep the resistance in the proper range.
If your speakers are 8 ohm and you connect two to the same output on the amp, that drops the resistance to 4 ohms.
Most amps can handle 4ohm loads , but some can't.
