Adding a second vid card to my rig

I have a Geforce3 Ti200 AGP card and I want to add a second monitor. Should I just get another PCI card like a Geforce2 MX200/Geforce4 MX420 to run that off of?

Also, would I run into serious problems dropping in an ATI based PCI card when I have the Nvidia card in there now? Would there be driver issues with the 2 different brands?

I have almost the same setup as you (in Big Bertha) and once I updated the drivers for my ATI Radeon PCI card everything runs very stable.

What O/S are you running? I have WinXP on my new machine and it runs my multi monitor setup very well. Can't say that about my other machine (Alpha Rig) that has WinME!!!

<< why dont ya just sell your geforce and get a card that supports dual monitor setups... ? >>

Dual head cards usually are limited to only a dual monitor setup. I know for instance that ATI's dual head cards do not permit another PCI GPU at the same time. If someone eventually wants to go triple monitors (or more) they are better off with one GPU per monotor.

Also a dedicated GPU per monitor can concentrate 100% of its graphics processing to that monitors' task, whereas a dual head card needs to split its graphics processing between the two monitors leading to diminished performance.

Well, the system works good with the AGP Geforce3 Ti 200 and the PCI ATI Radeon 7000. I installed UntraMon 2 beta 6 and am enjoying my dual 21" setup!
