hi all
anyone have any experience with SATA and IDE drives?
I added a new SATA drive to my existing SATA on my dell 8400.
this makes it so that I have:
Sata 1 = main HD (seagate 160gig) (OS)
sata 2 = seagate 160 (no OS)
IDE 1 = dvd burner
IDE 2 = samsung cdrw

now for some reason I cannot get either burner to be recognized by windows if the second sata 2 drive is enabled. i can have sata 1 and both IDE. any ideas?
thanks!
dell 8400
win xp sp2

You should be able to, email dell techsupport, either they or we should be able to fix it.

Probably tricky with a Dell since they have very limited BIOS options, but there is normaly an option for enhanced mode SATA that will allow both SATA and PATA modes to work at the same time.

thanks guys
went thru and rechecked everything before I called dell and I think this is what happened. I had changed the bios configuration last week to what seemed to be appropriate and it didnt work. opened up the case and low and behold the darn IDE cable is not in fully
that will do it!
felt kinda silly considering my experience with computers.
thanks again!
it all works :)
