Adding a HUB to a peer to peer network

I have a simple network of 2 PC's connected via a crossover cable from NIC to NIC. The cable runs
through the roof so I must keep this cable.
Now I want to add a hub and a 3rd PC, and I'd like to know how to connect each PC to the hub. My only
requirement, is that one PC connects to the HUB via the crossover cable.
I thought I could plug the crossover into the uplink port, but I am not sure if that is valid.
Please advise.

Yeah, you can do this.

NIC=Network Interface card (Network Card in the Computer).
Hub or Switch are connected the same way.
Uplink is a NIC type of connection on Hub/Switch.

Cat5 has two kinds of cables:

1. Straight Patch - That is the regular cable.
2. Crossover Patch - When you buy you have to ask specifically for it.

Each has different connection between the pins of the plugs.
For Technical explanation look at this link: CAT 5 TWISTED-PAIR NETWORK CABLES

These are the rules of connecting

NIC to NIC - crossover Cable.
NIC to Hub - Straight Cable
NIC to Uplink - crossover Cable.

Hub (regular) to Hub (regular) - crossover Cable.
Hub (regular) to Hub Uplink - Straight Cable.
Hub Uplink to Hub Uplink - crossover Cable.

NIC to NIC - crossover Cable.
NIC to Hub - Straight Cable
NIC to Uplink - crossover Cable.

Cable/DSL entry on a Cable/DSL Router (WAN) is an Uplink.

==================================

Modem output is not standard in Cable/DSL.

If your Modem came with Straight Cable:
Modem to NIC - Straight (regular) Cable
Modem to Hub - crossover Cable.
Modem to Uplink - Straight (regular)Cable

If your Modem Came with crossover Cable:
Modem to NIC - crossover Cable.
Modem to Hub - Straight (regular) Cable
Modem to Uplink - crossover Cable.
