Adding a Geforce 3 Ti200 a worthy upgrade?

I'm finding a lot of my games are starting to suffer with my crap computer

PIII800E
Geforce 2MX (First gen...MX200)
600mb PC133 CAS2

I'm wondering if you guys think its worth it to upgrade to the same system plus Geforce 3 Ti200?

The PIII doesn't OC worth a turd because I got some cheap RAM in my system.

I was considering the Radeon 8500, but the drivers suck unholy crap. They won't work with one of my favorite games which is unacceptable.

I was hoping to get a KT266A board, DDR Ram, and an Athlon XP...but I don't think I can afford that package...
 
ARgh, difficult decision. It would be definately worth it if say your existing graphics card was older.

If you upgrade to a Ti200, you will see a performance increase of course, its a shame that it wont be extreme though. You would be more sensible to got for a GF2 GTS ultra or something, as that might yield the same performance increase.

Its a shame you cant afford to get a new CPU/mobo/ram aswell, then again, a new CPU/mobo/ram + old GF2 MX would be worse than your current system + a GF3 Ti200...

Hope that helps. The main problem is that your system is pretty well matched... The graphics card is slightly below the performance of your other components, but only just. If you can only upgrade one thing, the upgrade that.

THEN you have to decide what to upgrade to... GF2 (powerful version) or GF3?. The answer is:

If you are going to keep your current system + new graphics card for a while 6 months+, then go with an older graphcs card than the Ti200.

If you are going to upgrade your CPU/mobo etc within about 6 months, then it may be worth getting a Ti200, as it might be a performance match for your new CPU etc.

Uhhh dude, the GF3 TI200 is faster than the GF2 Ultra. Scouzer, go to your local BestBuy on Friday 11/24 and see if you can pick up a GF3 TI200 for $99. 😉

Yeah I know. The thing is, whats the point of a Ti200 when you retain the same CPU - a P3 800...
Slight overkill I think. Then again I dont live in the US and I'm only familiar with prices in the UK.

I said what I did based on the assumtion that the Ti200 was more expensive than a GF2 GTS Ultra (high end GF2). Of course the two cars on the same system will have different performance, BUT the burning question would be: Does that P3-800 have the bandwidth to supply a faster card with the data, and therefore take advantage of the faster card? I dont know.
 
Here in the States the cards are about the same price, and the bandwidth might be a small factor, I would get the g3ti200.
 
A geforce 3 ti 200 is going to run you around 200 bucs, a Athlon xp 1500 and a shuttle board is going to be around 200, I think the processor is the better bet.
