Adding a Gbit switch to a Mbit network

I'm currently using Comcast as my ISP with a Linksys WRT54GL router loaded with Tomato firmware.

Two computers on this network have 1 Gbit NICs and an older one is 100 Mbit.

If I only have Cat 5e cables would the intro of a Gbit switch between the router and the PCs fail to bring me additional speed?

Would the router hold back the switch even if I upgraded my cables to Cat 6?

What about the PC with a 100 Mbit NIC? Would that hold back the switch?

Thanks.

No negative impact at all. What will be improved is performance between the PCs with gig cards. Cat5e is fine. Internet performance will be identical.

Just what I was hoping to hear. Now to decide between Trendnet and ASUS.

Thanks, spidey.
