Okay folks, here's the deal. Today I'm adding a second cpu to my BP6 (love this board), will win2k automatically recognize the 2nd CPU or is there anything I need to do?

Will it require a new install of win2k? Gosh, I hope not.

Thanks in advance for any information.

You have to change the PC type to multiprocessor from device manager. Now I am not sure whether thats the only thing you need to do.

I have done this before. I would suggest you go to http://www.bp6.com, there is an article somewhere. Essentially, you bring up the system properties, and then in hardware manager, you look at the CPU type. I forget exactly, becuase I am at work, but you can highlight the uni/acpi processor and "change driver". Then you choose MPS system, or something like that.

But, you might want to reinstall win2k right on top of the current version. It will recognize the difference, and install the proper kernel.

Be careful about which HighPoint ATA66 drivers you use. If you use the old ones, both processors will be using ~50% of the power with no programs running.

what else do you want to know...you change the "Computer" type in device manager via the upgrade driver option. And be very careful of installing and/or upgrading HighPoint drivers. Use the MS website for the HCL and use those drivers!
