Hello everyone,

I've got Asus K56C laptop (Nvidia 740M, running Ubuntu 14.04), which has HDMI port and VGA port/Mini D-sub 15-pin port.

I want to add 2 external monitors to it, one of those is Dell u2311h which has only DVI port, so I think I can just get DVI to HDMI adapter and it will workout well.

Now second monitor has VGA output only, so theoretically I should be able to plug it in as well, but that's how my laptop's slots look like:

So I have hard time believing that both cables can be inserted at the same time, unless that VGA jack is very small. All of the ones I tried to search look like this:

Which is too wide, or is it just looks too wide to mee?. So is it somehow possible to work it around somehow, or it's not designed to use both slots at the same time?

P.s. I don't have those monitors now yet, so I cannot test.

It's not designed to use both slots at the same time, but there's no reason to believe it won't work (740M has the necessary display controllers).

dragantoe's suggestion to maim a VGA cable to make it fit is going to be your best bet, especially if you wish to test it first.

Ahh so it's possible to chop sides off without breaking any integral parts of the plug?

Anyways, very strange that it's not designed to use at the same time..

A dremel cutting tool is handy, use the cutting disk on the end. Or maybe if you have a clamp, you clamp the VGA connector to a table, and then carefully use a hacksaw...

Yes, that HDMI-DVI cable looks like it would work (hard to confirm due to computer translation of languages). I've used a similar cable and there weren't any issues, but keep in mind there is a possibility that the cable might cause the monitor to miss the power off signal that lets the monitor go to sleep, if the cable is made improperly (this is very unlikely, but just want to let you know if your monitor suddenly stops going to sleep, then try a different manufacturer cable, or adapter).
